Obama advocates wind power
Wind power is unquestionably one of the planet’s cleanest energies, because it creates no waste, uses no water and doesn’t require fuel.

It’s no wonder that the country’s dependence on wind power is constantly rising. In fact, the United States Department of Energy predicts that by 2030, wind power will constitute at least 20 percent of all electricity generated in our country (a number echoed by President Obama in 2009).

“The nation that leads the world in creating new sources of clean energy will be the nation that leads the 21st-century global economy,” Mr. Obama said. “American can be that nation. America must be that nation.”

It doesn’t hurt wind power’s cause to have the country’s commander-in-chief as a huge advocate. In fact, it is President Obama supports an energy plan that would reduce greenhouse gases by a full one-fifth before 2020; and by 83 percent by 2050.

When Earth Day was created in 1969 (and first celebrated the following year), it was designed to inspire an increased appreciation and awareness for our planet and its natural environment.

While we still have a long way to go, our country has made many advancements toward the goal of a cleaner Earth, with one such advancement being wind power. With people like President Obama at the helm, there is certainly hope for a cleaner tomorrow.
